Z-Rack vs C-Rack: Which is Right for You?

The Two Most Popular DIY Rack Styles

When it comes to building a surfboard rack, the Z-Rack and C-Rack are the two most popular designs. Both can hold multiple boards securely, but they differ significantly in construction complexity, visual appeal, and space requirements.

Z-Rack: The Practical Choice

The Z-Rack gets its name from the Z-shaped profile when viewed from the side. It is the simpler of the two designs, using straight cuts and right angles. This makes it ideal for beginners. A typical Z-Rack can hold 4-6 boards and costs around $50-80 in materials.

C-Rack: The Aesthetic Choice

The C-Rack uses curved arms to cradle each board, creating a more elegant look. The curves require more skill to cut and shape, but the result is a rack that works as well in a living room as it does in a garage. Materials cost is similar to the Z-Rack, but expect to spend more time on construction.
